  • Rd 4 vs Peak Downs Pirates

Tigers showed a controlled and mostly disciplined display at the weekend accounting for last years Premiers the Pirates 44-16. Tigers got out of the blocks after a first 15 minute stalemate which either side failed to score. It was one way traffic for the rest of the match. The smaller foward pack worked well together and layed a platform for backs to put the points on. Not our greatest day in the kicking department but it was a 9 tries to 3 win.

Halves Ray Downie and Connor Jones lead the boys around well. Jones also picked up 2 tries and 3 goals for his 2nd A grade game. Billy Neal tackled all day(33) especially in the second half(18) and Wade Campbell not far behind(16). Jake Madsen excelled at the back filling in for incumbent Ray Ebsworth who had to pull out due to illness. Clint Day also showed some great hole running bagging tries.

Josh Johnston debuted well for the Tigers with some aggresive defence and will be one to watch.

  • Rd 3 vs Cowboys Duroux Shield

The Tigers mens weren’t as lucky as the ladies going down to cross town rivals the Cowboys 38-28. With the match hanging in th balance for the last 10 mins it was the blue and white’s that held on. The was some really good footy played by both sides aswell as some lapses in defence. The tries seem to come in 2’s and 3’s as each side took turns at asserting dominance. Connor Jones made his A Grade debut in the loss. He held his own in his first outing and will be someone to watch in future. Billy Neal made a successful return to the paddock picking up 1 point(3,2,1) from the bench. Tigers will be hoping to knock over last years premiers Peak Downs Pirates this Sunday at 3.30pm straight after the ladies game at McIndoe Park.

Tigers joined the winners circle for the first time this year with a 54-36 win over Dysart Bulls. The score doesn’t do the game justice. At multiple stages Dysart lead the Tigers and got out to an early 3 try lead.

The game didn’t start as planned with Hickey Oval experiencing electrical problems causing the power to the whole complex to short over and over again. But in the end the game got away about 8.30pm. Dysart hit early showing lots of passion for the trophy at stake. The scored a couple quick tries through offloads from their big men up front. After about 15mins the Tigers finaly kicked into gear which saw them lead at halftime 24-18.

Tigers had another lapse straight after the break and Dysart skipped out to a 12 point lead after the Bulls capitlised on a couple of Emerald’s mistakes.10mins into the second half the Tigers finally gained some composure and ran away with the match. • Rd 1 vs Clermont Bears

Tigers started the season with a Rd 1 loss to last years Minor Premiers. With both teams sporting to fairly new outfits it was unknown what was to be expected. But it was the Bears who played the wet weather footy in the dismal conditions. Tigers had oppotunities but couldn’t capitilize with too many handling errors and penalties but there was some good perfomances in the beaten team. The crowd was good considering the weather. So back to training and get ready for this weekends clash against the Dysart Bulls for the Hicks Memorial Shield at 7pm at Dysart.
