  • Rd 2 vs Fitzroy Gracemere Sharks-Ladies

    tigers ladies 1

Tigers Ladies opened up the 2013 account with a convincing 30-6 win over newcomers Fitzroy Gracemere. The girls had good structure for the best part of the match and their defensive was only broken once late in the game. Emma Holwartz was creating trouble for the Sharks defence picking up 4 tries. Captain Rheenie Devine’s defence was solid with Julie Murchie playing well at Dummy Half. The girls will be hoping for another win at home this weekend against Yeppoon Seagulls kicking off at 2.30pm at McIndoe Park.

  • Rd 1 vs Gladstone Raidetts- Ladies

This weekend the Tigers Ladies go head to head with the new comers to the competition, Fitzroy Gracemere Sharks. After a tough but rewarding opening round against the 2011 premiers, the Tigers Ladies are keen to build on their round one game and put on a strong performance against the Sharks.

“When it comes down to it, the score from last week definitely does not give the girls justice on how well they played. I have seen this group grow in the last year from a few girls struggling to throw a football around to a team that have huge hearts, very impressive skills and hold their heads high no matter the result – attributes that make me so proud to be their captain.
I am so honoured to have witnessed the improvement and enthusiasm that these girls are showing in the early side of the season.”

“After a cracking 60 minute game in the midday heat, the score ended at 36 – 4 in favour of Gladstone. When up against a team like Gladstone, we cannot afford to have minimal subs and unfortunately in the end, they got us with some fresh legs & impressive footwork. Our centre Laura Richards was awarded 3 points for her strong defensive and amazing attacking skills and our 5/8 Maria Rawiri was voted as Players/Player for her outstanding overall performance and leadership throughout the game. Emma Holzwart & Karissa Deakin were also commended on their hard work receiving 2 and 1 points. The team only travelled with 13 players and each one of them played their hearts out and gave it their best – what more could a captain ask for. Well done girls!! ”

“We are very excited to take on the Sharks at home this weekend and are so glad to be bringing a full team along this time. The girls are going to go out there to prove that they belong at the top of that ladder this year and with the communities support, that is exactly what will happen. So come down and enjoy the night’s events – there will be canteen and bar operating, many raffles to be won & team merchandise for sale. ” Captain Rhiannon ‘Rheenie’ Devine

This weekend’s game will be the first of 3 home games at McIndoe Park for the Tigers ladies and will be played at 5.30pm as the curtain raiser for the men’s Duroux Shield game.

  • Rd 2 vs Dysart Bulls- Hicks Memorial Shield

    hicks memo 13

Tigers joined the winners circle for the first time this year with a 54-36 win over Dysart Bulls. The score doesn’t do the game justice. At multiple stages Dysart lead the Tigers and got out to an early 3 try lead.

The game didn’t start as planned with Hickey Oval experiencing electrical problems causing the power to the whole complex to short over and over again. But in the end the game got away about 8.30pm. Dysart hit early showing lots of passion for the trophy at stake. The scored a couple quick tries through offloads from their big men up front. After about 15mins the Tigers finaly kicked into gear which saw them lead at halftime 24-18.

Tigers had another lapse straight after the break and Dysart skipped out to a 12 point lead after the Bulls capitlised on a couple of Emerald’s mistakes.10mins into the second half the Tigers finally gained some composure and ran away with the match. Dysart fought extremely hard till the final minute. With this win the Tigers retain the Hicks Memorial Shield for the 2nd time out of 3 atttempts.

  • Rd 1 vs Clermont Bears

Tigers started the season with a Rd 1 loss to last years Minor Premiers. With both teams sporting to fairly new outfits it was unknown what was to be expected. But it was the Bears who played the wet weather footy in the dismal conditions. Tigers had oppotunities but couldn’t capitilize with too many handling errors and penalties but there was some good perfomances in the beaten team. The crowd was good considering the weather. So back to training and get ready for this weekends clash against the Dysart Bulls for the Hicks Memorial Shield at 7pm at Dysart.

    pj marsh

Tigers will be heading to Barcaldine on the 16th March to play (trial game) against the Sand Goanna’s 6pm @ Barcaldine Showgrounds. The usual amenities will be available. Cold beer, hot food and some great footy action. The game will be an annual game between the 2 clubs with all money raised going towards Semita House in Emerald and Barcaldine Aged care.

The “Wren Cup” came about as we approached Barcaldine in 2012 for a trial but unfortunately it didn’t turn out. Both sides contain a Wren brother(twins). Emerald- Luke and Barcaldine- Mark. Both are fiercely competitive. Both are also plumbers and run their own business’s and are both the Major sponsors for each respective club. We are hoping to forge a good rivalry against the Sand Goannas and make it a fun weekend and raise some money for a good Cause, and hopefully get the first plaque on the trophy of course.

One of the lads to don the Tigers Jersey will be Ex-NRL and Queensland player PJ Marsh in the side. Will hope that having PJ in the side will draw a few more fans so we can raise more money. So if you want to see PJ back on the paddock and say G’Day to the former Maroon come down for a 6pm kickoff.
