Tigers went into last weekends game looking to back up a good win against Bluff. Two good training sessions during the week had the Tigers ready to go for Saturday.

The first 10 mins of the game was back and forth with both sides feeling each other out. Springsure were missing the likes of Kane Day, Jesse Day and Charlie Mayne but had still come to play. After 13 mins Gavin Power crossed with Ray Ebsworth Missing the Conversion. Jason King ran 70m metres and used his pace to burn the defenders. Ebsworth converts 10-0. Next up was a great try by the veteran of the squad Kitione Saukura straight under the sticks. 16-0. 2 more tries came to hard running prop Meirana Parata scores and Koby Scott scores out wide to take Tigers into the break 28-0.

The second Half Springsure has gained some momentum through hard work in the forwards and picked up the first try of the second half 28-4. That was the last time the Mountainmen troubled the scoreboard as Tries to Brendan Kelly, Koby Scott, Ricky O’Donnell, Ryley Parter and Isaiah Huet and 4 goals to Ray Ebsworth and 1 goal to Boyze Harbord saw Tigers run out winners 56-4.

    Player Points went to
    3- Meirana Parata
    2- Brendan Kelly
    1- Darcy Hardess

  • Wounded Tigers strike

The Tigers mens squad headed over to the Undefeated Bluff Rabbitohs with only one on the bench. Due to work, the Flu and Injuries the Green and Whites were decimated. Although with limited numbers the Tigers spirit was there.

The Tigers headed onto the field knowing there was a mighty task ahead if they were going to be competitive. It didn’t help that Bluff scored 2 early tries in the first 10 mins. 12-0 early on and the Tigers needed to react. A backline movement out to 17 year old flying winger Tyler West got the Tigers off the mark. Conversion missed. The game stalemated for 15 mins  before a try to Gavin Power. Conversion Missed. Into the halftime break 12-8 to the Bluff Rabbitohs.

Taking some pride out of the score at halftime was not good enough for Coach Dennis Moore and the players. Asked by Moore if they were happy to go home with a very good half on under the belt or did they want to push for the win the answer was unanimous. But could the Tigers fitness hold out after Tigers Backrower Des Sofea injured his shoulder but choose to play on so he didn’t leave his team without a reserve.

Into the second half and Bluff got over the chalk first but the Tigers were not going to lay down. Koby Scott ran a good line and scored and Converted by returned Capra Ray Ebsworth.  Not to be out done by Koby Ray put the next 2 tries on himself and also converting both. Tigers out to a 26-18 lead. & minutes to go and the fatigue was hitting home fast. With both sides making errorts the Tigers held out to take the victory after a late try to Bluff 26-24. Ricky O’Donnell scored a game high 28 hitups and Wade Campbell topped the tackle count with 33.

  • Ladies grab first victory on the road

    Story By Maria Rawiria

As you would all know, we had our first bus trip of the year, heading out to Henricks Oval to play for the first time against the Blackwater Crushettes and boy did they turn up!

We took 17 girls to Blackwater (a few broken fingers, a rolled ankle and work meant we were a couple short), but that didn’t deter us.

This game saw us cross the line only three times in the whole game, even though we increased our hit ups (on the three previous rounds) by 73%. These Crushettes sure can defend well!

First half tries went to Casey Watkins, with a line bust around the half way mark off a draw and pass from Bonnie Walsh and the other to Cooper Hill, who crashed over on the edges to take us to the half time break at 10-0 (Watkins’ try was the only converted of the night, though I didn’t miss by much with the other two!). Ball security was at a premium on the night, had both sides held on to it a bit more, the score could have been much different!

Second half saw more hit ups, crunching tackles (a few penalties) and the lone try that went to Kiri Samson off some hard running up the middle by forwards Caity Lye, Nioaka Ross and Chantelle Nagel. The full time score, went to us 14-0, which also means that we go into the next round undefeated after four weeks of playing

     3, 2, 1 and Players Player went as follows;

     3 – Cloe Ramsay (Centre)
2 – Chantelle Nagel (Front row)
1 – Nioaka Ross (Front row)

Players Player – Cooper Hill & Cloe Ramsay (Centres)

Our girls will now take a well-deserved break with byes and the Queen’s birthday weekend confining us to the training field only until 20 June 2015 when we head out to Bear Park to play our old mates which will feature recently appointed Central Crows representatives Elle Stitt and Carly Bell

  • Duroux Shield Loss hits home for Tigers mens

Tigers mens went down to cross town rivals Emerald Cowboys to hand back the Duroux Shield. Tigers have had a slow start to the season after losing a up to 10 players from the last years side.

The Cowboys shoot out to a 20-0 lead after some lethal attach on Cowboys Andrew Doyle side. Doyle created overlaps and set up tries but had to leave the field just on half time. With 10 minutes remaining the Tigers had rallied behind the tryline and committed on working hard to get back into it. ith some big runs from prop Meiranas Parata a few plays later Tigers crossed. They backed it up and went to the break 20-10 trailing.

The Tigers come out of the sheds firing and Isaiah Huet lunched an 80m attacking raid down the left flank scoring under the posts. Gav Power converted. 20-16. Tigers were on the prowl and scored again 4 mins later taking them out to a 22-20 lead and had the Tigers looking like they were going to shoot away with the score.

The momentum suddenly swung with the Tigers 5 penalties in under 5 mins. The second half penalty count was 7-1 to the cowboys after a 3-3 penalty count in the first half. With all of the possession the Cowboys gained the Tigers started to fatigue with missed tackles and mistakes.

The Cowboys sealed the game with a try with 4 mins to go taking the game out to 38-22.

Player Points for the night were

    3- Meiran Parata(Prop)
    2- Gavin Power(Halfback)
    1- Ricky O’Donnell(Fullback)

  • Polly Pratt Shield Win for Ladies

    image1

Saturday night saw the inaugural battle for the Polly Pratt Plate take place at McIndoe Park as a brand new rivalry between old rival clubs. The Pirtek Emerald Tigers Ladies team took on the Emerald Cowgirls in a tough match played in perfect evening conditions

Though the Cowgirls have come off a couple of comprehensive losses, the Tigers knew they wouldn’t lie down that easily as the two teams began a new conflict within Central Highlands Women’s Rugby League

There were a few big hits (top tackles going to Mari Rawiri n the lock position), barn storming runs (front rowers Nioaka Ross and Chantelle Nagel making mass metres) and foot work to mesmerise (Kelsie Parter ripped them apart through the middle during the entire game) which kept the sizeable crowd entertained during the curtain raiser

First half tries for the Tigers went to Cooper Hill (centre) and one each to second rowers Miranda Bartley and Bianca Cornelius. The Cowgirls right hand winger also scored a try, which showed that points were on offer out on the edges for the most patient and controlled side. As it were, Tigers took this one and went into the break with a lead of 16-4 (only one from three conversion attempts were successful)

The second half saw the Tigers settle into our work a bit more. Securing the ball, organising plays and shuffling defence (although our line was breached once by the big front rower Holly Skuxx running straight at me!). Tigers tries were scored by  the always reliable Kiri Sampson with a scoot from hooker, another to Hill and for the second week in a row, our little shorty, Kelsie Parter, crossed the line twice again, to bring the score out to 34-8 (conversions were only at 3 from 7 this week)

    3, 2, 1 and Players player for the Tigers went to;

3 points – Kelsie Parter (halves)

2 points – Nioaka Ross (front row)

1 point – Miranda Bartley (second row)

    Player’s player – Nioaka Ross

  • Tigers mens hope to kick start season with a Duroux Shield win

The Tigers mens will be hungry to win this weekends local derby against the Emerald Cowboys for the Duroux Shield after wining it last year. Tigers performances have been improving but crucial mistakes have sometimes cost them. Coach Dennis Moore and Assistant Brett Weatherley is working hard to get some results. Their is live entertainment and bar till late. Hope to see u all their.
