Ladies grab first victory on the road

Story By Maria Rawiria

As you would all know, we had our first bus trip of the year, heading out to Henricks Oval to play for the first time against the Blackwater Crushettes and boy did they turn up!

 We took 17 girls to Blackwater (a few broken fingers, a rolled ankle and work meant we were a couple short), but that didn’t deter us.

This game saw us cross the line only three times in the whole game, even though we increased our hit ups (on the three previous rounds) by 73%. These Crushettes sure can defend well!

 First half tries went to Casey Watkins, with a line bust around the half way mark off a draw and pass from Bonnie Walsh and the other to Cooper Hill, who crashed over on the edges to take us to the half time break at 10-0 (Watkins’ try was the only converted of the night, though I didn’t miss by much with the other two!). Ball security was at a premium on the night, had both sides held on to it a bit more, the score could have been much different!

Second half saw more hit ups, crunching tackles (a few penalties) and the lone try that went to Kiri Samson off some hard running up the middle by forwards Caity Lye, Nioaka Ross and Chantelle Nagel. The full time score, went to us 14-0, which also means that we go into the next round undefeated after four weeks of playing

 3, 2, 1 and Players Player went as follows;

 3 – Cloe Ramsay (Centre)
2 – Chantelle Nagel (Front row)
1 – Nioaka Ross (Front row)

Players Player – Cooper Hill & Cloe Ramsay (Centres)

 Our girls will now take a well-deserved break with byes and the Queen’s birthday weekend confining us to the training field only until 20 June 2015 when we head out to Bear Park to play our old mates which will feature recently appointed Central Crows representatives Elle Stitt and Carly Bell
