The Tigers ladies headed to Bluff on the weekend to take on Blackwater Crushettes in and rain soaked affair. The Crushers beat Dysart the previous week and were very lively from the start. The Tigers were looking to bounce back after the shock loss to Clermont Ladies the previous week.
The Tigers mens squad headed over to the Undefeated Bluff Rabbitohs with only one on the bench. Due to work, the Flu and Injuries the Green and Whites were decimated. Although with limited numbers the Tigers spirit was there.
Story By Maria Rawiria
As you would all know, we had our first bus trip of the year, heading out to Henricks Oval to play for the first time against the Blackwater Crushettes and boy did they turn up!
Tigers mens went down to cross town rivals Emerald Cowboys to hand back the Duroux Shield. Tigers have had a slow start to the season after losing a up to 10 players from the last years side.
We would like to wish all our staff, players, supporters and our Tiger families a safe and Happy Easter. And a massive shout out to our 2015 SPONSORS which you can find on our Sponsors tab above. If your on the road please use common sense and have plenty of rest stops. Not long now until the season kicks off. April 18 @ Blackwater is the first round for Mens and Ladies will be trialing for rep aswell.. Hope to see plenty of green over their.
Saturday 21 March saw this year’s Pirtek Emerald Tigers Ladies team have our first hit out as a full side when we played against the Central West Fillies in Barcaldine as a part of the Wren Cup festivities for 2015. With the heat soaring well above any autumn weather I’ve ever encountered, the girls done exceptionally well to keep the tempo up, even with the odd dropped ball here and there (big thanks to the ref for pointing these out to me!) The first quarter saw the Fillies score shortly after kick off, putting us in the red against an opposition that knows full well they are a larger team than we, using their forwards to bust over the try line, forcing us on the back foot immediately. However, tries to Tamyra Hunter, Cooper Hill and Amy O’Loughlin gave us a 22-12 lead at half time and more importantly, a confidence boost that continued on throughout the entire game. The second half saw the Fillies have us camped on our try line, but stout defence, quick thinking (and even quicker legs) saw Hunter blitz down the side line for a 90m run away. Further tries came from Kelsie Parter and another from O’Loughlin, gave us the 44-12 win and a promising start to our season.
Ray Ebsworth will mark his opposite number this weekend in North Queensland Cowboy Kyle Feldt. Feldt is playing on the wing for the Medhi Townsville Blackhawks on Saturday Night in the final trial for the CQ Capras. Both players will be wearing the number 5. It will be a good test for Ray and his progress made throughout the pre-season. Kick off is this Saturday 21st @ 6.30pm, Browne Park. It looks to be a wet and wild weekend where ball control could determine the winner.

Pirtek Emerald Tigers Ladies forward Casey Watkins has capped of a stellar year picking up “2014 CH Representitive Player of the Year”. Casey also picked up “Top Tackles”, “Top Tryscorer”, Player of the year” and ” Player of the Match” in Tigers 2014 Grand Final win. Casey also achieved a rare feat that we are not sure if it’s the first time in QRL history, Casey and her brother Henry (pictured) both wining “Top Tackler” for their respective teams.
