Saturday 21 March saw this year’s Pirtek Emerald Tigers Ladies team have our first hit out as a full side when we played against the Central West Fillies in Barcaldine as a part of the Wren Cup festivities for 2015. With the heat soaring well above any autumn weather I’ve ever encountered, the girls done exceptionally well to keep the tempo up, even with the odd dropped ball here and there (big thanks to the ref for pointing these out to me!) The first quarter saw the Fillies score shortly after kick off, putting us in the red against an opposition that knows full well they are a larger team than we, using their forwards to bust over the try line, forcing us on the back foot immediately. However, tries to Tamyra Hunter, Cooper Hill and Amy O’Loughlin gave us a 22-12 lead at half time and more importantly, a confidence boost that continued on throughout the entire game. The second half saw the Fillies have us camped on our try line, but stout defence, quick thinking (and even quicker legs) saw Hunter blitz down the side line for a 90m run away. Further tries came from Kelsie Parter and another from O’Loughlin, gave us the 44-12 win and a promising start to our season.
The Tigers-Springsure Mountainmen u21’s (south) will take on the Emerald Cowboys u21’s this weekend at McIndoe Park. The game will kick off at 7pm. Their will be a ladies game at 4pm aswell as an A grade game at 5pm. Come down and support Souths u21’s as we look to win our opening game.
The Emerald Tigers and the Springsure Mountainmen will join forces to enter the Central Highlands u21’s pre-season competition. A very short and sharp comp the team dubbed “South” will face of against “North”(Clermont,Dysart,Middlemount) on the 6th of March @ Springsure and then vs Cowboys on March 14 @ Emerald. The Final will be played at Middlemount on the 28th of March along with North vs South rep trials for the A Grade mens and ladies division as lead up games. An initial squad has been named with more names to come in before the first game.
Ray Ebsworth will mark his opposite number this weekend in North Queensland Cowboy Kyle Feldt. Feldt is playing on the wing for the Medhi Townsville Blackhawks on Saturday Night in the final trial for the CQ Capras. Both players will be wearing the number 5. It will be a good test for Ray and his progress made throughout the pre-season. Kick off is this Saturday 21st @ 6.30pm, Browne Park. It looks to be a wet and wild weekend where ball control could determine the winner.

Tigers kicked off a great 2014 presentation night at the Emerald Maraboon in September. Lots of laughs and drinks for the end of season party. Thanks to everyone who was a part of our successful 2014 campaign. See everyone again next year.
The Emerald tigers would like to congratulate all of the 2014 award winners!!
The Emerald Tigers hosted their annual presentation night at the Maraboon Tavern and it was a great success. Celebrating a successful year by both teams the Tigers would like to thank the Tavern for the wonderful service on the night.
Unfortunately the Tigers mens have finished one game short of the Ch Mens Grand Final. The were beaten by Clermont Bears 38-22 in a replay of last years Grand Final. The Tigers were 24-6 at halftime and needed a big lift to get the boys home. The Tigers lost prop Dan bock early with a broken hand. After the break the Tigers came out and was on the front foot for the first 15 minutes. The Tigers had a few injuries creeping in and the knee injury to workhorse Griffin Freeman After clawing back to 30-22 with 9 minutes to go the bears scored to make the deficit more than 2 converted tries. With the whistle hurting the Tigers it was hard to gain momentum. The bears finished off with a late try and sealed the Tigers fate. On the day big performances by Matt Langby, Ray Downie and Wade Campbell earned them match points. In a sad day for Tigers Captain Henry Watkins and experienced campaigner Ray Downie retired along side the earlier retirement of Peter Boyze Harbord. Henry Watkins joined the club in 2012 from Springsure Mountainmen as they had folded. His leadership was quickly showing and he was made captain in 2013. The 2013 Grand Final was his first in senior league which he captained. Henry picked up Coahes choice award in 2013 and 2014.
